Episode 6: FLCLimax

FLCL Episode 6
Spoiler warning!

Run time: 30:56

When Naota’s Medical Mechanica came out of his head and was destroyed, it has been looming over the factory, in the form of a giant hand, causing mist to enshroud the city. To make matters worse, Haruko and Canti are on the run from Amarao, who believes that he needs to find the Terminal Core before they do. Naota once again runs into Amarao in episode 6 who offers some strange advice. Though in a city as normal as Mabase, it’s really nothing new to Naota; or is it?

Fooly Coolly?
At the end of FLCL episode 6, you see a magazine accompanied by a picture of Naota holding a guitar with the words “Fooly Coolly.” This is often justified as a misspelling or some kind of animation error. This is not the case, “Fooly Coolly” was completely intentional. “Coolly” is an English word meaning to be composed and unconcerned with ones self. Perhaps this is a reference to how Naota is growingly confident in himself as a young adult. This could also be a departure from the term “Fooly Cooly,” hinting at Naota’s nature of being foolishly over-confident and cynical to act mature.
