A FLCL fanfic by harukofan.
EPISODE 1(quick note:”Gaina” is japanese dialect for “good”):
it’s been 5 years since Haruhara Haruko,a bass-playing-vespa-riding alien woman, came to Mabase & shook the world I knew.
I’m 17 now,Samejima Mamimi has moved on to photography & took Takkun with her.Eri Ninamori kind of faded away after the smoke left by Haruko-sa…I mean haruko, cleared.Gaku & Masashi dropped out of school at the age of 15 & I haven’t heard from them since.
*chuckles*
kinda sounds like one of those stupid ads that tell you to stay in school, huh?my pervert of a dad & my basketcase of a grandfather continued to run the bakery after I left, with Canti as thier aide.Amazingly, our cat,Miyu Miyu,is still quite alive.
at least,he was when I moved out.My name is Nandaba Naota. All that’s left of my past is a guitar(it’s a lefthanded Rickenbacker),some photos and an old pack of cigarettes from Mamimi-san.
here I am,Christmas ‘06 coming up,& I’ve got noone to spend it with.
not even a tree.
Just a cheap apartment,low-grade cable TV & a few suitcases.
oh,the guitar,too.
I reach over to grab my bag marked “important”.
I rummage through until I find what I wanted.
I flick the switch of the lighter & the cigarette starts giving off embers.
hey,when you get a chemical dependency,THEN we’ll talk about what is & isn’t important,OK?
. . .
here I am,smoking memories,unpacking my crap.
I turn on the radio that I packed, seeing the only stuff on TV was some Anime by a company named Gaina or something.I turn off the radio as well, seeing as the only station that comes in is playing some Rock-Funk Band called Rage Against The Machine.
the mere name brings back memories.
painful ones that end with airsoft duels.
If I hadn’t invested in getting an MP3 player a few years back,I’d probably be going insane right now.
I find it & turn it on,going to a song entitled “Patricia”.
[1 hour later]
I had unpacked a good portion of my stuff when I decide to take a break.
I look at the city below through my window.
I stick my head out & look down.
“I’m higher up than I thought.”,I said,unthinkingly.
down fell my cigarette.
it almost landed on someone wearing a red floppy hat.
“oops”,I thought,laughing.
my stomach was growling at this point.
“man,I don’t have any food.”
I look in my wallet.
20,000 yen{roughly $200}
“$^!%.life’s gonna be tight for a while.”
I ordered something cheap(thank God for phones)from a resturant pamphlet I found.
I sit.
& wait.
I garb a notebook I started a few years back,full of a couple sketches I liked.
I did some reshading as I waited for my food.
then came a knock on the door.
“that was fast.”,I thought to myself as I walked to the door.
I opened the door & in front of me was an Auburn-haired woman wearing a floppy Santa hat on her head & a camera around her neck.
she looked around 22-23 years old & had a cigarette in her mouth.
“uh,do I know you?”I said.she smiled.
“you look…familiar…”
she smiled wider.
“you look like-”
I stood there in awe.
“Ma…Ma…”
she grinned ear-to-ear & out fell the cigarette.
“is it…you?”
“Merry Christmas,Takkun!”she said.
“Mamimi-san!”
I was so happy to see her after so many years.
“p-please come in,Mamimi-san.”
she bowed slightly.:thank you.”
she walked through the doorway & reached in her back pocket, grabbing a bottle of some sort.
she started drinking it.
“?
what is that?”
she stops.
“Popskull,Ta-kun.want some?”
I jumped.
“I-I-I can’t drink that!I’m only 17!”
“why not?you were smoking a minute ago.”
“WHA-?how the hell did you know that!?”
“*hee hee*cuz’ when I walked up to this place, you stuck your head out that window & dropped your cigarette.”
“oh,yeah”I said,blushing.
I changed the subject.
“it’s been a while since I last saw you,Mamimi-san.”
“yeah it has, hasn’t it?”she said, drinking her black Alcohol.
“so how’s life been,Ta-kun?”
“decent.Truthfully,I’m low on cash.”
“I could give you some money.”
“that would be nice, but don’t feel obligated.”
“it’s fine,consider it rent.”
“huh?rent?”
“Yeah,I,uh,kinda need a place to stay.”
“OK,then.you can stay.”
“how much do you want?”
however much you’re willing to give a deadbeat.”I said,jokingly.
she laughed & started going through her bag.
as she dug,out fell some pictures.
mostly some pics of a pop-rock band that went huge after doing music for an anime(I think they’re called The Pillows).
“hold on,Ta-Kun”she said.
more stuff falls out.
A cell phone, unused film, some pocket manga, personal items that she quickly hid from sight(a journal, you perverts!).
she kept digging until she found her wallet.(I’m glad I wasn’t waiting for a kidney…)she handed me a fistful of money.
I looked at how much it was.
“holy…!this is 100,000 yen!{$1,000}”
“yeah?your point?”
“I-I appreciate you generosity,Mamimi-san,but I can’t take this much.”
“why not?it’s legal tender.*hee hee*”
“but-but…Ah,hell.whatever”I said,giving up my argument.
“you’ve grown quite a bit,Ta-kun.”
“th-thanks.”I said.
just then, there’s a knock on the door.
I answer the door,though I quickly wish I hadn’t.
there,in front of me,was someone I thought I put out of my life years ago.
end.
