FLCL Second Boot

A fan
fiction by ATOMKIMPLODE

What
do you think would happen if they made a second season
of FLCL? I’ve got my thoughts.

Personally, I think this:

Naota, after being left by both his best friend (Mamimi)
and the antagonist who changed his life (Haruko), is left
wanting to escape Mabase even more than he originally
did. So, overtime, Naota continued to live his boring
life, always going to bed with the guitar in the corner
of his eye. This goes on for 3 years.. Then, one night,
he suddenly realized: he can utilize his N.O. powers (which
he doesn’t quite understand yet) and his guitar to free
himself.

So, the morning after, he took the guitar, and tried to
remember how Haruko worked the guitar. He remembered the
chainsaw-like cord in the back, so he tried pulling it.
A loud noise comes out of the guitar, that resonated throughout
all of Mabase. He then, in a sudden burst of inspiration,
pulled up the guitar and whacked himself in the front
of the head. The guitar flew out of his hand, and he flew
back toward the wall of his house.

When he woke up, he discovers — he made a bump. He activated
his own NO portal. “Good…”

Meanwhile, Haruko, who was somewhere near Venus, suddenly
found her N.O. bracelet active. “Atomsk?” she
questioned herself, but she quickly realized, he was last
seen somewhere near Uranus. She was just at Venus to refuel
after recent experiences on Mars. “What is… could
it be……. Takkun? No… that’s not the half of it…”

The moment she said that, a bright light sped through
space, headed directly for Mabase…

Amarao heard a bleep on the radar. Quicker. And quicker.
“What’s this…. hmm….” He pressed a couple
of buttons on the control panel… “It doesn’t appear
to be anything MM related… however… OH! It’s…. it’s….
it’s… Bokata!”

BOKATA: Atomsk’s brother, takes the form of a snake.

“What could Bokata be active for?” Haruko asked
herself. “Why is he headed for Mabase, and why is
Takkun’s N.O. field active again? Atomsk has something
to do with this, I just know it… where are you?!”

Back on Earth… it’d been 3 days. The bump hadn’t progressed.
Naota was working the register at the bakery, when suddenly,
the entry bell rang. Naota didn’t pay attention to the
customer, he was too busy playing video games. The customer
grabbed a loaf of bread and walked up to the register.
Naota didn’t even look up, he knew there was a customer
there.

“What can I do for you today?”…”How much
is this loaf?”…the voice of the customer sounded
familiar…”5.50″…”Okay, I’ll take it.”…”That’ll
be 5.50 please.”…”I-”…”Just put
the money on the counter, I’ll take it from there.”…”B-”….”Look,
I’m not much in the mood for talking with the customers
today, please just go.”…”Okay, the money’s
there… thanks I guess….”…

Naota looked up. He realized who was there. “Wait!”

The customer turned around.

“Why are you back? I thought you…”

“I’m taking a break, Takkun.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean I’m taking a break.”

“In that case, sit down… haven’t seen anyone friendly
in a while.”

“Why not, Chief?”

“Because, I’ve had work.”

“What about school?”

“Dropped out, my dad had to leave to Kyoto for his
career, and my grandfather had a stroke, so I’m left fending
for my own.”

“Oh….”

“Sit down, Mamimi………………..”

There is a pause.

“Please. I’m bored.”

About 30 minutes later, they both were sitting under the
bridge again. Naota was wearing a bandage over his bump,
yet the bandage look was normal for him now. “The
bandage look, it’s you.” — Haruko said that.

A bright star appeared in the sunset sky. Bokata was gaining.

“So you dropped out, huh Chief?”

“Yeah, I couldn’t handle it, I had to decide between
my well-being or my schooling. Now, I’m taking care of
my grandfather, the bakery, and I’m teaching myself by
reading a lot.”

“Why didn’t-”

“My dad come back?”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t know. He said he had work. I think he’s
got more than work.”

“What do you mean, Takkun?”

“I mean I think he’s got a new life up there. Like,
a girlfriend and everything. Too busy for me and grandpa.”

“Oh.”

“Wouldn’t be unlike him… you saw him with Haruko,
right?”

“Not really.”

“Oh… he was all over her. I actually saw them…

“Oh.”

“Yeah…. what’s been going on with you?”

“I went to the US. A lot of magazines over there
like my work.”

“Really? I always liked your pictures, actually…”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I don’t know… I just didn’t.”

“You’ve…. changed…”

“Yeah, I know I have. Being alone for 2 years does
that to you.”

“2 years? You’ve been out of school for that long?”

“Yeah. I just want out of here now.”

“Is that why you’ve got a bump again?”

“Huh!? Oh, uh…. no….. uh….”

“Takkun…”

“I told you not to call me that.”

Mamimi leaned her head on Naota.

“I know….”

“Why are you doing this?”

“I…. missed you.”

…..

“Oh… s–s-so, anyway… the US?”

“Oh, yeah… it’s a depressing country, the US.”

“Oh? How?”

“It’s not what they say it is. It’s plain. That’s
part of the reason why I came back, Chief.”

The light shone brighter.

“What’s that light, Takkun?”

“Dunno. I haven’t really seen it before….. hey
wait…”

“What?”

“In the US…. did you….”

“Did I what?”

“See………. my brother?”

There was a pause.

“…yeah.”

“What’d he say?”

“That I was crazy.”

“Oh. He’s married now, that’s probably why…”

Mamimi began to tear up.

“I don’t want to talk about it right now.”

“Okay, we won’t then.”

Amarao looked at the radar again. “Hmmm…. it’ll
be here tomorrow afternoon, two nights tops.” Kitsurubami
looked over at him. “That’s really bad?” “Tell
me about it, Kitsurubami… this time, we don’t have Raharu
to give us that boost of help she did last time. I think
we may be screwed for sure…. unless Canti can stop it,
which I doubt…”

A day later, Haruko floated above the Earth, steadily.
The bright light was very close. It was a second sun now.
It was morning.

“So, Takkun tried activating his own portal. I wonder
why.”

The afternoon came. The bright light was about to hit.
The town had evacuated.

Mamimi and Naota were under the bridge. Asleep. Avoiding
the world.

Naota felt hot. He woke up. Mamimi was next to him, still
asleep. They hadn’t gone to sleep until very late. He
looked up to see the light. He could clearly see it -
it had a face. Eyes.

“What is that thing?”

His bump shook.

Suddenly… Bokata hit. Canti flew up toward the thing.
It retreated underground. Mamimi woke up. An earthquake
began to shake the town down to crumbles.

Naota’s grandpa, in a what seemed terminal sleep, fell
along with his bed when the floor in the bakery fell through.
The bakery then collapsed upon his resting body. He remained
alive, and he even woke up briefly…

“The sky… is falling…. crazy kids and their nuclear
weapons.”

As the town collapsed, it seemed as the sky was falling.

Mamimi held onto Naota. They had arrived at the crash
site.

“Takkun, what’s going on.”

The 15 year old looked up.

“I don’t know, but it’s something bad…”

And just then…. he burst from his hiding.

“Atomsk is near!”

“Kitsurubami, we need to get out of here.”

“Mamimi, stand back!”

“An evacuation has been declared for the entire Mabase
area… please leave according to the———–beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…….”

A yellow Vespa appeared in the northwest corner of the
sky.

“…what’s he doing?”

The thing lunged forward.

“MAMIMI!”

“TAKKUN!”

It grabbed her. It pulled her. Tried to bring her underground.

Canti flew at full speed.

Haruko looked down at the action like a sports fan.

Onlookers watched on the big screen in central Tokyo.
A news copter filmed the action from above.

Kitsurubami sent the government workers through the escape
tunnel.

Amarao stayed at the helm of the computer.

Naoto’s bump began to shake wildly.

The bandage flew off.

“….no… not nowwwwwwwwwww…… AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!”

“His portal opened!”

Suddenly, a white apparation began to reach its way out
of Naota. It looked like Naota, only older.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
IIIII—IIIII—–IT’S WORKING!!!”

The apparation flew out of Naota. Naota’s body fell to
the ground. The apparation spoke.

“I’M FREE! AT LAST, IT WORKED!”

“TAKKUN HELP!”

“He released his own SOUL!”

“CANTI, NOW!”

At that cry, Canti looked upon the face of the growling
Bokata and soared towards Naota’s soul. He landed and
immediately opened. Naota dove in.

Canti, driven by Naota, immediately knew his goal — save
Mamimi first, stop Bokata second.

He flew towards Bokata. Towards the left of Bokata, where
Mamimi was held prisoner.

He grabbed her and sped her to a safe place. He dropped
her and transformed into the laser missle launcher. He
shot three times at Bokata’s head. Bokata transformed
from the giant being of light into a giant brown snake.
Canti flew into the roaring mouth of Bokata.

Mamimi began to look around. She then saw it– Naota’s
body.

“….Ta….kkun…? TAKKUN?”

She ran for his body. She began to try and coax it back
to life.

“Takkun, come back! What killed you, Takkun? TAKKUN!”

And then…

“I’M HERE MAMIMI!”

“Takkun?”

Canti flew out of Bokata, who morphed back into a small,
light dot and flew into the sky.

Haruko grabbed her guitar, ready to smack it.

“ROUND ONE!”

She smaked the light right in the sky.

“For you, Atomsk!”

She burst back into space, as so to hide her presence
from the Earth– especially Takkun.

Naota’s soul flew into the stratosphere and back down
to Mamimi. He landed softly.

“Mamimi… I’m behind you.”

Mamimi turned around to see what looked like a 20 year
old Naota, only transparent.

“Ta….kkun?”

“Yeah?”

“Wh…wha….what happened?”

“I’m free, Mamimi. I hit myself in the head with
the guitar to get my soul out of my body.”

“But…”

“What?”

“You look…. 20….”

Suddenly, Haruko appeared, on her Vespa, behind Naota.

“Maybe his soul is older than his mind, ever thought
of that?”

“Haru-san, why are you here?”

“I’ve been here since Bokata started attacking, I’ve
just been hiden.”

“Haruko!”

“Yeah, I’m just here to say congratulations for realizing
you could do that. You were always a smart kid, you know.”

“STOP FLIRTING WITH HIM!”

“Oh, you’re jealous, I presume?”

“AH!?……I mean….. no, I’m not jealous, I just
thought it made him uncomfortable…”

“Mamimi…. it’s okay, I really don’t care either
way anymore. I don’t need to.”

“Yes you do.”

“Why?”

“Becuase if you don’t either find a new body or get
back in your old one, your soul’s gonna expire.”

“WHAT?”

“Yeah, you see, I had a friend who tried doing that
himself, and his soul expired too, so I suggest you find
a body soon.”

“BUT THAT’S UNFAIR!”

“…or, I could just find one for you….”

“NO WAY, TAKKUN’S PERFECTLY ABLE TO GET ONE HIMSELF,
HMPH!”

“You ARE jealous, aren’t you, Samaji?”

“NO I’M NOT!”

“It’s okay, I’d be flattered if you were.”

“…Takkun, I-”

“Now’s not the time for that, he needs a body, and
I’m offering to clone his old one and age it so it fits
his soul.”

“Wait, you never said that.”

“Yeah, what he said.”

“Of course I never said that, you didn’t let me,
Samaji.”

“Actually, she didn’t interrupt you, you just stopped
at saying you could get me a body, and for some reason
she felt offended by that.”

“Wow, quite the mature one now that we’re not tied
by the physical limitation of NOT HAVING A MIND, aren’t
we, Takkun?”

“DON’T HOLD THAT OVER ME!”

Haruko laughed.

“Look, I’ll accept your offer, but where are you
going to clone my body and then change it to a 20 year
old’s?”

“Mercury, that’s where.”

“Wha…?”

“Yeah, on Mercury is where most beings get there
human forms, where do you think I got mine?”

“Huh?”

“You actually think I’m human? No way!”

“Then why not change to your true form, Haruko?”

“Because, Samaji, I happen to like this look for
me– besides, so does Takkun, right Takkun?”

“Uh…. HEY, GET OFF IT, ALRIGHT!”

“YEAH, REALLY, YOU KEEP YOUR GRIMEY HANDS OFF OF
HIM!”

“Mamimi, why do you–”

“BECAUSE, I–”

“Oh… yeah…. uh… I knew that.”

“Yeah, I thought you had, Takkun, that’s why I–”

There was a pause.

“Once again, you two, we don’t have time for that,
Takkun here is about to die, and every minute you gush
on each other, it’s wasting time!”

“Okay, then, take my body and go!”

“Yeah, you could’ve said that before.”

“He did!”

“Not exactly.”

“Just go already!”

“Wait, Mamimi, before we have her leave, I want to
know two things — will I get my brain back, first of
all?”

“Yes, actually, that’s why I’m cloning it first.
That way, you’ll actually be able to think like your own
soul instead of some mindless 15 year old.”

“Okay, that’s good. Second of all… how long will
this take?”

“30 minutes, tops.”

“That better be it, Haru-san.”

“Mamimi, calm down… it’s okay. As long as I don’t
die before it gets here.”

Two hours later, Mamimi and Naota’s soul sat under the
non-existant bridge.

“I can’t believe the bridge dollapsed.”

“I can’t believe she’s not here with my body yet.”

“Calm down, Chief.”

“Me calm down, did you see yourself earlier?”

“I already said sorry for that, Takkun.”

“No, Mamimi, I’m sorry for mentioning it, you’re
right.”

“Serious?”

“Yeah, I shouldn’t have brought it back up, I’m just
a little tense, is all.”

“…I love you, Takkun.”

“Hmm…”

Mamimi rested her head on Naota’s non-existant shoulder.

“I love you too, Mamimi.”

Then, they saw it. The floating Vespa. With an extra passenger
in the back.

“Yes!”

“Finally, you’re back with my body!”

“Well, well, hurry up, Haru-san, let’s see it already!”

She landed and hopped off. His new body was laying on
the back of the Vespa, cloaked.

“Well, first off, let me explain why it took so long.
Turns out, ol’ Takkun here had a virus.”

“A virus? Like a flu?”

“No, like a computer.”

“Are you being sarcastic?”

“No, really, there was a virus in your body, in your
N.O. magnetic stream.”

“Magnetic stream?”

“Yeah, it’s invisible, runs right along side your
blood stream. The virus was why your N.O. was so strong,
and it’s also why you were able to eject your own soul.”

“So, what’s the problem with it?”

“It ate your brain, Takkun.”

“Ate… my… BRAIN?! My new one?!”

“No, idiot, your old one– that’s why it went missing.
It was about ready to eat your body’s insides — then
your soul.”

“So it’ve killed me completely?”

“Exactly.”

Mamimi hugged Naota tight at this remark.

“That sucks. So you had to clean the body before
you cloned it?”

“Exactly. Now that that’s out of the way… your
new body is ready!”

She pulled off the cloak. The body looked exactly like
Naota’s soul did, only actually a human body. Haruko had
put clothes on the body that matched Naota’s old clothes.

“It’s… perfect…”

“…I’d have to agree with that, definately, Chief.”

“Looks good?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Good.”

“Well then, Takkun, hop in!”

“Mm-hmm.”

Naota’s soul walked forward towards the body. He touched
his own chest.

“This is a strange feeling.”

“That doesn’t matter, get in, you could lose yourself
at any second!”

“Right!”

Naota looked square at his new body. He grabbed it. His
soul suddenly sunk into the body.

*Two weeks later*

“….you grab the wheel, and then you turn the car
on, so you don’t lose control. And remember to keep it
in brake!”

“Okay, Mamimi, I got it!”

Mamimi watched the new Naota try and drive her car.

“No, the other way, Chief, you gotta pull the stick
the other way!”

“Okay, I got it!”

They had left Mabase, in search of a new home. They arrived
in Carat, a city about 15 miles southwest of Mabase. They
were just staying there for the time being until they
had enough money to buy a place in lower Kyoto.

“Hang on, let me show you.”

Naota stopped the car.

“Naota-kun, you’re doing it all wrong, you have to
make sure you’re not pressing the wheel at all times.”

“Oh, that’s why it keeps going around in circles.”

Mamimi giggled.

“Here, watch me.”

She got in the driver’s seat, Naota went to the other
side.

“You start in park, with the brake on, switch to
drive, then carefully press the gas, and don’t use the
wheel unless you need to. We’ll talk laws later.”

“So, can I try.”

“You could, but there’s no time, Takkun.”

“Why not?”

“Don’t you remember? Dinner. It’s 6:30!”

“Oh yeah! We’re going out tonight!”

Mamimi smiled.

“Yeah, uh… I guess you can drive?”

“I got it, I got it.”

Naota smiled back.

“Let’s just go.”
