LOL... I'm still not quite satisfied with the lunch time part.... even if 'itadakimamusei' has a very different context, and is the correct usage the authors wanted, to what the English counterpart is stating...

idk... I just wanted to see if I could pick through all the episodes, the way "lunch time" is said several time, and other allusions to it, and see if there could be something else embedded into it....

for example... I was able to pick out the phoenix part of Atomsk... with the death of Naota’s immature self going into the stage of adulthood or something... in some way it kind of symbolizes that, but I guess someone else could say something else about it..

hmmmm.... lol.. I guess we could go on and on with this..... but I don't think we've picked this subject to death yet.. ^_^

In the fist episode, after the first three and a half minutes, Haruko comes in, charging in with her Vespa, with her guitar grinding the pavement, then says "alright, lunch time", twirls it around like crazy, hits a soda can that was dropped from Naota, slips recklessly, and collides into Naota in that.... er cartoonish way

I don't even want to get into what the rational reasons were for her trying to help Naota out when he gets hit... or even the weirdness of her trying it lol... but in the end she hits him in the head with her guitar to start what we latter find out as gap for dimensions, and all that other sci-fi stuff... ok...

Anyways, Is it foreshadowing something in the future? Like when Canti engulfs Naota to power up in a battle (with amazing visuals I'll add too). haha, I ate some lunch, and Canti’s belly seems to turn into this half metallic nightmare demon mouth as it sucks me in, transfers his body into a location where Canti uses the source of Noata's head, to use the power of the all mighty Atomsk that is in store.. whoa.... dar...

Not sure, where I'm going with this... but I know there is more instances where she says it in another episode or two, but I'm too lazy to specially hunt for food in the trash.. I think I'm going to have to anyway hahahaha!!!!

Anyone else have anything to say...??
Ok.... Ill stick in school for long lessons about stuff that everybody knows. You learned about FLCL, good for you Mr. long story short. Oh and BTW the Lunch time thingy was way too long but to simplicate it asking a question makes it even harder but if you add the analogies into terms of, er... meaning. No offence also, if your making a topic (not a posty) then you can add questions to the readers if it makes sense to you. Too bad im poor.

lol.... ok.... that was kind of redundant.... but it might of been too long... been then I like to right allot at times.... I'm sorry if it wasn't clear... but if you can tell me what wasn't clear I can clarify what I was trying to say within its context....

and I don't think saying "Is this good?", "Can you relate to this?", "Is this making sense to you?" is very good on explaining your point LOL...

Just an attempt to translate a pun as a pun... which is usually a lost cause.

This line confused me for a while too. But after watching every version of FLCL (including 3 fan translations), I can safely say that there is no deep symbolism in this saying. Or should I say that even if there is, there is also a more shallow, rational explanation...
Naota and Mamimi were under the bridge during school hours. Normally, when one is in school -- especially the younger ages -- students look forward to lunch time. Therefore, it is not at all strange for students to yell out "alright, lunchtime!" in their lunchtime frenzy. It's just something kids do. What could symbolize is Haruko's immediate child-like behavior. However, what it more likely was intended to be is Haruko merely informing these students that it was lunch time (they wouldn't know, they're in school), which is why mamimi says, "already?"
Also, it's possible, and likely that Haruko was taunting them, or implying that they should be in school, to hear someone say lunchtime, to begin with. This also makes sense.

*sigh* Again?

Please re-read the post of someone who unlike most (if not all) others on this forum actually speaks Japanese and knows things from the source. The phrase "itadakimasu", though can be used in similar circumstances as "lunchtime", does not really have anything to do with neither lunch nor time, it's not "informing" anyone, it's not about being in school, nothing like that. In the first place, it refers to speaker's state, not anybody/anything else's around him. So does the derivative from it that Haruko says. Bear that in mind when searching for *any* symbolism, no matter how deep or shallow.
