The modern 150 cc vespas can get to 59 mph (95 km). You could swing going on the highway with that, you'd just want to be pretty careful. All and all there a good cheap alternitive to a car, I've been thinking about getting one myself. It's curious that so many FLCL fans would look into vespas, I wonder why that is.

Yeah but I could never own a newer Vespa for several reasons. IMO they're ugly and they have a CVT transmission. No more shifting gears and they would probably SUCK to work on. I will never take my cars/bikes to the stealership or mechanic. They charge so much to fix ish it's rape.

yeah the old styles are better for sure they even look better and they're more durable because there made out off better metals, but most old ones you find have crappy paint jobs so youd have to paint them. and going 60 on a vespa i scary as hell anyways

Problem is it's not even a full face helmet. Most head injuries result in the rider falling on his/her chin and Haruko's helmet doesn't cover your mouth. Not good if you like your jaw.

oh and i know this is is sorta restating my first post but harukos bike at least goes 200mph because in the tokyopop comic noata figernails are comming off from riding it and she lifts things like cars off the ground in the first episode.

and i like my jaw and face and life .....but those helmets are still cool!!

vespa

Postby krzypilot13 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 10:41 am

When I first thought about getting a scooter for work commute and messing around with, I remembered the one from flcl and did research on it. I couldn't find a decent one for under 5k and all of them were on the East coast where more ppl ride scooters. I found a '80 ,150 very cheap on ebay and modified it for more performance. I was considering painting it yellow and getting the "P!" sticker for the front. The body looks similar but not exactly like the one in flcl but idk if fans will recognize it's not the same model and put me down or praise me for the imitation.

I'd also love to get that Davida helmet but for now I'm sticking to my full face I got for my big bike. It's cool to read on here ppl interested in getting scooters inspired by this anime like I did.

I would love to get one of these. I would trade in my Civic ANY day to get a Vespa like Haruko's.

@_@ A fanboy can dream though, right? <3

Hi, new here. Ran across this topic while looking up Vespas (yes, FLCL fan looking for a vespa :P ) Anyways, I figured I'd point out that while the SuperSports are relatively rare, you can usually find the 150cc's for cheep, and in my oppinion they look cooler (more bubbly and round) and if painted up yellow and you threw on the P! sticker nobody except anal freaks would care that the bike was the wrong model.

edit:
Heck, if you switched out the front light and side ferrings nobody could tell at 1st glance that its a 150cc and not a 180 cc ss. Replace the egine with the 180 and it might as well BE the supersport.

edit#2:
Also, for those saying the older ones run better, don't be so sure. 50's/60's vespas were meant to be cheep. I'm getting my vespa with the classic body but a bran-spankin-new stella engine; the older vespa engines were very fussy.
