and destroys the giant hand Haruko wanted to use...

nonononono no! Haruko doesn't want the giant hand at all! She wants Atmosk! And Naota doesn't destroy the giant hand. Atmosk destroys it. The first time, when he's in Canti, he smacks it with his guitar, and blows out the part of it that keeps it going, making it useless. And then, in the final episode, Atmosk sucks it up into his head using his N.O.

How do YOU know that wasn't the case... How do you know Haruko didn't have any incentive on using the hand for something... Of course she wanted Atmosk, but definitely she knew of a clever process on getting it... That’s why she did all those strange things, like whacking Naota to create a portal that’s connected to other dimesions... Shes is a good con as well..

And how do YOU know that Natoa didn't destroy it... Where's your evdience as to far as to what really happened? Was Atmosk really an entirely different entity of Naota... Or was he a part of him all along... Does Atmosk depict a change in ones life..? What does Atmosk represent...? The charters section of this website has quite a bit on him for this matter..

" He is a bird-like creature, resembling a phoenix. Amarao is portrayed inaccurately imagining Atomsk's appearance as humanoid when he describes him to Naota. In an interview, the director clarifies that Atomsk's true form is indeed that of the bird, and Amarao's mental image was of a man because he believed that Atomsk and Haruko were lovers."

We all know FLCL has a lot about growing up, and Naota can be seen progressing through the stages of maturity with each episode (Maybe a little in some cases)... We all heard from some time or another that a phoenix is seen as a legendary bird which burns itself to ashes on death, and rises alive from the ashes to live another period of life... Does Atmosk represent the death of something and the birth of another in Naota..? Of course it does !!! He finally realizes what it is to become Mature... Atmosk might be portrayed as the death of his former self; like being immature, selfish or letting others take control of his life... That’s probably why it destroys the hand, as to show Haruko that she was abbess with something foolish...

*sigh*, okay, i guess i'll explain it more clearly...

it WAS Atmosk who hit/destroyed the hand at the end because of two OBVIOUS things:
one, he uses HIS OWN guitar, and two, because Naota is shot (in the form of that orange ball) and then slams into a billboard. So, without Naota to control Canti, it had to be Atmosk. isn't it obvious how Haruko gazes into the Naota-less Canti saying "Atmosk..." ? i dunno, i thought people could pick up on that...

hmm...i think you're right with the 'death rebirth' thing with the pheonix. good job.

How do YOU know that wasn't the case... How do you know Haruko didn't have any incentive on using the hand for something... i don't think you're really defending your case in this paragraph. Haruko, being the selfish...alien...that she is, only wants Atmosk. Nothing else. The hand that came out of Naota's head was going to ACTIVATE the Medical Mechanica plant. Why would she want that if Medical Mecanica is the exact thing she's fighting against? And if Medical Mechanica activated, there wouldn't be any more heads for her to use on earth. So, she does not have any purpose for the hand. She even tries to destroy it! why would she use something that she tried to destroy???

That’s what I picked up on too when I first saw that episode ... But further looking into the movie I started to think outside the box... I was looking for things in both the noumenon and the phenomenon... My 'death rebirth' view (I liked how you worded it Amy) of Atmosk is one of them and has lead me to believe that there is more to him than meets the eye... That goes with Canti and Medical Mechanica as well... With this I've been trying to figure and piece some stuff together... What we're actually seeing may not be what is being portrayed to us... Even if it looks so obvious to us... Takai003 has said plenty of times before that FLCL should not be looked upon directly as it appears...

With that I was looking at what you said on the "without Naota to control Canti" part.. Isn't he a part of Naota too...? Just because Naota isn't inside Canti's body when we see Atmosk's powers, doesn't mean that there’s some connection that might be referring to Naota... And could Haruko be gazing at a quality that she wants to see in her "ideal" person or thing..? Or could it be she might be dreaming of something that Naota isn't or doesn't want to be...? I believe that there might be something that represents Naota being thrown away from Canti as we see Atmosk being seen as the dominate figure... But not quite sure how to word it yet, or what it symbolizes fully..

I guess your right about my first paragraph, as I didn't finish my view, but that’s my fault... But you’re proving my point of what I said before... Your right, she is selfish... and she’s willing to risk any thing for her desires!!! She'll do anything thing for it right..? Especailly for.... Atmosk...?

We hear her say in the final episode "I said I don't care about any of that, I just want Atmosk, that’s all; I don't care what happens to this planet, they'll have to think smooth I guess.".. She also says she doesn't care what happens, to Amarao, in "Brittle Bullet", as a first sign of admitting to her selfishness... It doesn't appear she is fighting against Medical Mecanica at all but she certainly doesn't give a crap about it either... She also seems to care for little when she shows her other personality...

But in the end, there is a soft spot that somehow sees Naota for who he is, and accepts it, even though she still yearns for that "Atmosk". I place Atmosk like that because I think Haruko is seeking for that type of quality... That’s probably why Atmosk leaves the planet, because there’s nobody that will fit with what Haruko wants... That is, no mature person will ever have the quality that Atmosk is... hmmm...

quite long tread for just two words ...

In my opinion, the "Itadaki mamosu" in manga just means "eat mammoth", a child wordgame, as I read time ago in a fan translation (mamosu is as they spell "mammoth"), and in the anime , the "itadaki masu" quote just means "eat this" as a word game too because Naota is going to "eat a bass", it's easy as this ;), also, here in Spain we got the same quote when you hit someone ("cómete esto/ahora te lo comes", and you hit anyone with your fist or a club,etc...)

(just my opinion)

okay, to explain why she says lunchtime. as you should know, before the Japanese eat a meal, they say 'itadakimasu', which means 'i recieve the earth's bounty'. In the Japanese version, Haruko says 'itadakimamusei', dropping the 'masu' and adding 'mamusei', which is an outdated Japanese slang. So, to translate, Haruko says "Here I...come 'n' get it!" in the Japanese version. Now, for the english version, some idiot thought "oh...so it's like she's going to eat something? Let's have her eating lunch, i think it's close to that time!" but, they of course, were a complete idiot, and had her say "Alright...Lunchtime!" But there's a message that comes (or at least is SUPPOSED to come) across from her saying both things, which is this-Haruko is a man-eater.

it's also supposed to show how much of a...how should i say it?...to show how rude she was, to change that humble phrase, which is very important, into something totally different. But, of course, the english version doesn't show this, so what do you care. if you have questions about this, just watch the series in Japanese and listen for 'itadakimasu'. i think the class says it in the last episode before they eat. But in the english version, they say 'time to eat'. So...yeah...

grrrrr...why do people ignore these wonderful posts of mine?

just kidding...but seriously, read earlier posts to prevent saying something that's already been said, or answering something that's already been answered.

(I think that it's written like this) it's a theory that says that the easiest explanation it's, for sure, the true

waaah, you're so scaryyyy!!! :C25: I need to relax a bit...again :C13:
